The famous Abel $29 deal is a simple no-frills deal capped with 100km free per day (accumulative). Bookings require online payment via credit card, with cash payment for the rental itself. Note: this deal doesn't apply during public holidays, school holidays, or peak periods.

Place a booking online, by phone, or visit a location. The primary driver needs a credit card for pre-authorisation and a valid driving licence. Staff will walk you through the rental agreement, inspect the vehicle for damage, and you're ready to go. Upon return, they verify the vehicle's condition.

Yes, debit cards work for both rental payments and security bonds. However, Abel does not accept pre-paid Visa or MasterCards or Load and Go debit cards.

Abel rental vehicles are not fitted with a toll tag. Renters are responsible for toll payments within three days via www.govia.com.au or calling 13 33 31. The renter and credit card holder are responsible for any and all toll and infringement fines.

No. For legal and safety reasons, customers may not leave their personal vehicle at any Abel depot.

Abel is unable to guarantee the make and model of the vehicle at the time of booking. Please advise your preference upon arrival and we'll do our best to accommodate you.

Yes. Every truck in the Abel fleet has a tailgate lifter. This feature makes it much simpler to load and unload heavy items.

Vehicles can tow within legal limits. Currently, the Mitsubishi Triton utilities are approved for towing.

No. Vehicles are not covered for unsealed roads. If an accident occurs on an unsealed road, the renter bears all costs.

Queensland (up to Cairns), Australian Capital Territory, New South Wales, and Victoria. If an accident occurs outside these authorised regions, the renter and credit card holder will be responsible for all costs. Commercial vehicles are limited to a 250km radius from the rental location.

Renting the Vehicle

The $500 bond verifies available funds and card legitimacy — it is held by your bank, not Abel. Release times: 7 business days (NAB, CBA, Westpac, ANZ); 14 business days (BOQ, Suncorp, St George, Citibank, Heritage, BankWest, Bendigo); up to 21 business days (credit unions, international banks).

Yes, if that person is present with valid photo identification and a driving licence (if they will also be driving).

For stays under three months, an International Drivers Licence is accepted along with a current passport copy. For longer stays, an International Drivers Permit is required.

Yes. Abel screens for high-risk drivers and reserves the right to ask potential renters questions about their personal driving records.

Only drivers named on the rental agreement may drive the vehicle. Additional drivers incur surcharges.

Yes. Document any existing damage on the Vehicle Quality Control Sheet before you leave. We encourage you to take photographs as well — this protects you in any dispute.

Yes, at checkout or during the rental by contacting your location. Extensions are subject to availability and premium fees may apply. Payment is required on the same day.

Address any injuries first, contact police if needed, then notify your rental location. All Abel vehicles are covered by 24-hour roadside assistance. Note that callout fees apply if the breakdown is due to renter error.

Yes. Call 1300 131 429 to modify or cancel. Cancellation fees may apply ($45 cancellation fee).

All trucks are automatic and driveable with a regular open car licence. Renters and drivers must be at least 25 years old and no older than 75.

Yes. A credit card is required for the security bond. The cardholder must be present with a valid driving licence.

Visa and MasterCard are accepted.

A confirmation page will display your reservation number, and you will receive a confirmation email with collection details.

Returning the Vehicle

1–2 hours late: one-third of the daily rate charged. 2–3 hours late: two-thirds of the daily rate charged. 3 or more hours late: full day's rental charged.

Vehicles don't need to be professionally cleaned, but should be returned in good condition. Sand, pet hair, excessive dirt, or mud will incur cleaning charges.

No. After-hours returns are not available. The vehicle must be returned during the depot's operating hours.

Vehicles are provided with a full tank of fuel. Return the vehicle with a full tank or a refuelling fee will apply.
